Ateneo Law to host Makati leg of ULAS Consultations
22 Mar 2024
On 17 May 2024, the Ateneo School of Law will host the Makati leg of the Unified Legal Aid Service (ULAS) Regional Consultations.
In acknowledgment of the imperative to enhance access to justice for indigent individuals and marginalized communities, the Philippine Supreme Court will conduct a series of Unified Legal Aid Service (ULAS) Regional Consultations nationwide from 12 April 2024 to 17 May 2024. This initiative aims to embrace a more inclusive and participatory approach in formulating regulations pertaining to legal practice by soliciting input and feedback from stakeholders towards the finalization of the ULAS Rules.
The ULAS Regional Consultations involve a consultative dialogue on the proposed regulations, which are set to govern pro bono legal aid services by covered lawyers. These services are intended for qualified recipients, including (a) indigents; (b) members of marginalized sectors with respect to their public interest cases; and (c) non-governmental and non-profit organizations, with respect to cases beneficial to indigents and members of marginalized sectors.
The ULAS Regional Consultations will function as a forum where the Judiciary, members of the Philippine Bar, and the public can convene to discuss the proposed regulations, deliberate on their essential provisions, and extract valuable input from participants. The input will be for the consideration of the Court En Banc.
