Lenten Reflection: May I Just Say

Lenten Reflection: May I Just Say

There are moments when we feel that we want to say something but we can’t seem to or we hesitate to. Or there can be times when we hope to somehow gently ease into what we will utter. Maybe we even have instances when we are uncertain as to how others will perceive our message and that’s why we make a short preamble for it. And so we begin with ‘May I just say…’. May I just say I don’t agree with you. May I just say I’m sad. May I just say I love you.

This whole narrative of Lent might be all about God’s may-i-just-says to us. Because He recognizes our freedom, because He’s a persistent yet respectful suitor, because He’s a gentle lover, He takes His time and He makes much effort to softly tell us certain things through Christ. ‘May I just say I don’t agree with you that you are not meant for better, deeper and greater things?’ ‘May I just say I’m sad for all the pain you’ve been through and that I am just here to carry your burden with you, for you?’ ‘May I just say I love you…so much that I would give my life for your eternal joy and safety?’

There are so many things to say, so manymessages to hear. As we recognize the busyness of our life, every now and then, may we pay attention to the whispers of the Lord. And may we allow ourselfopportunities to open up to Him. Today, may we be honest with ourself, lookinginto our own may-i-just-says as we talk with Him. What is truly in my heartthat I want to acknowledge and say? How is God inviting me to be healed and tobe saved? Where is the Lord’s voice calling me?

Maraming maaaring sabihin, maraming mensaheng maaaring marinig.
