The School of Humanities congratulates UMPIL lifetime achievement awardees

UMPIL Lifetime Achievement Awardees

The School of Humanities extends its congratulations to the following for their respective lifetime achievement awards from the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL):

  1. Fatima Lim-Wilson (AB Literature, 1982), Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (Tula sa Ingles)
  2. Ma. Cecilia Locsin-Nava (MA Literature, 1965), Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (Kasaysayang Pampanitikan at Salin sa Ingles) 
  3. Jerry C. Respeto (associate professor, Kagawaran ng Filipino), Gawad Paz Marquez Benitez
  4. Felice Prudente Sta. Maria (Tanglaw ng Lahi, 2021), Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas (Sanaysay sa Ingles)   

The awards will be given by UMPIL during the 50th National Writers’ Congress on 27 April 2024. 

Lim-Wilson is the author of two collections of poetry: Wandering Roots (1991) and Crossing the Snow Bridge (1995). Locsin-Nava is the author of History and Society in the Novels of Ramon Muzones and a translator of Muzones’s novels. Aside from teaching courses in Philippine literature, Respeto is a theater director and former chair of the Filipino Department. Sta. Maria is the author of The Governor-General's Kitchen: Philippine Culinary Vignettes and Period Recipes, 1521–1935; in 2022, she delivered a lecture series with the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies called “Influencers Anonymous: Spilling the Tea about Why We Eat What We Eat.”
