ALSE-OF-LIFE holds 4th Culture-Building Workshop for Asia

03 Jun 2024

We are thrilled to share the success of the 4th Culture-Building Workshop (CBW) for the ALSE OF-LIFE Program, held from 17-19 May 2024 in Quezon City, Philippines. This event brought together 40 dedicated volunteers from 8 countries, all united by their commitment to the mission and values of the ALSE OF-LIFE Program.

CBW Asia

Participants, hailing from Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand, engaged in activities aimed at deepening their understanding of Ignatian values. These values — Magis (Banal at Bayani), Finding God in All Things/AMDG (Bukas sa Lahat), Cura Personalis (Kalinga sa Sarili at Sangnilikha), and Being Persons for Others (Malasakit at Bayanihan) — are the foundation of our efforts to support overseas Filipinos and OFWs.

CBW Asia

Facilitated by Coach Jeronimo ‘Mimo’ Perez and Aubrey Albo-Perez, who have been instrumental in previous workshops held in QC (Asia), Madrid (Europe), and Doha (Middle East), this workshop focused on enhancing communication, strengthening community bonds, and improving task effectiveness within the ALSE OF-LIFE program.

Key Recommendations

To enhance the ALSE OF-LIFE Program, we recommend decentralizing outreach efforts by systemizing volunteer mobilization and alumni record management at the country level. Documenting alumni stories, especially those implementing SI/SE business plans or supporting marginalized sectors, is essential. Providing renewal opportunities for alumni through regular discussion groups and trained culture-building animators will help reenergize them. Creating more short videos focused on alumni, particularly elders and seniors, can improve engagement. Enhancing our communication strategy using IEC, social media, and infographics will boost program exposure. Regularly recognizing volunteers and offering support services such as mental, legal, conflict management, and communication support are crucial. Encouraging monthly meetings and team-building activities will strengthen bonds. Formalizing alumni networks and building partnerships with organizations like Wimler, OFIEM, and Caritas Macau will enhance collaboration. Engaging in fund-raising activities, developing fellowship activities like sports, expanding scholarship programs, and ensuring local succession training and mentorship are also vital. Replicating the CBW nationally and establishing a regional council with two volunteers per country will help coordinate efforts and extend the program's impact.

CBW Asia

The Asian regional council, composed of two volunteers from each country, will spearhead efforts to replicate these workshops nationally, furthering the reach and impact of the ALSE OF-LIFE Program.

Stay tuned for more updates and stories from our dedicated volunteers and the vibrant ALSE OF-LIFE community!
