In a vibrant display of cultural unity and respect, the Ateneo de Manila University community came together to celebrate Eid’l Adha, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The event was held at the Dumas Function Room inside the Innovation Wing of Arete last June 18th, highlighting the university's dedication to fostering a supportive environment for all its members, particularly its Muslim college students.

A Collaborative Celebration

This momentous celebration was spearheaded by Ateneo de Manila’s Muslim college student community, with the robust support of various university offices. Key supporters included the Office of the Dean of the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM), led by Dean Roberto Galang, and the Office of Student Activities, headed by Mr. Ralph Jacinto Quiblat. Additionally, the event saw active participation from Ms. Roxanne Lopez, OSA Coordinator for Arts, Culture, Internationalization, and Diversity, whose efforts were crucial in bringing this event to life.

A Warm Welcome

The program commenced with a heartfelt prayer for Eid, led by Zaidamin Haron, an incoming junior in the BS Communications Technology Management program and one of the student advocates of the Ateneo student Muslim community. His invocation set a tone of reverence and unity, embodying the spirit of Eid’l Adha. Following this, Dr. Maria Luz Vilches, Vice President for Higher Education, delivered a warm welcome address, emphasizing the importance of such celebrations in promoting understanding and harmony within the university.

Dean Galang and Mr. Quiblat also shared brief but meaningful remarks, underscoring their support for the Muslim community and their commitment to ongoing conversations and plans that enhance cultural appreciation and inclusivity at Ateneo de Manila.

 A Feast of Flavors

Guests at the celebration were treated to a delightful array of Halal Tausug food, symbolizing the rich cultural heritage of the Muslim community. The simple yet sumptuous meal provided an opportunity for attendees to experience and appreciate the culinary traditions that are an integral part of Eid’l Adha festivities.

Continuing the Conversation

This event is more than just a celebration; it is a testament to Ateneo de Manila’s ongoing efforts to cultivate an inclusive environment where diversity is not only acknowledged but celebrated. The university recognizes the importance of continuous dialogue and plans to support its diverse student body actively. The Office of the Dean of JGSOM and the Office of Student Activities are committed to furthering these initiatives, ensuring that events like this are a regular feature in the university calendar.

The Eid’l Adha celebration at Ateneo de Manila University stands as a beacon of hope and a model of inclusivity, reflecting the institution’s core values of unity, respect, and cultural appreciation. As the university continues to grow and evolve, events like these will play a crucial role in shaping a more inclusive and understanding community.
