Ateneo de Manila Scouts are in Cebu for first ever Jesuit Schools Scouting Network Camp

Thirteen Ateneo Grade School (AGS) Scouts and 13 Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS) Scouts are now in Cebu to represent Ateneo de Manila in the first ever Jesuit Schools Scouting Network (JSSN) Camp 2024. The six Jesuit schools participating in the JSSN Camp are Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Zamboanga University, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, Xavier School Nuvali, Ateneo de Davao University, and Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu. The event aims to foster camaraderie among all Scouting Units of all Jesuit Schools in the Philippines, and will be held in the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu campus from July 5-7, 2024. Guided by the theme "Ignatian Scouting: Trailblazers of the Magis," the JSSN Camp promises a weekend of thrilling activities, campfire stories, and endless fun.    

A simple send-off ceremony was held for the Scouts and their adult Scouter companions in the AGS campus in the morning of 4 July 2024. Vice President for Basic Education Fr Joaquin Jose Mari "Jonjee" C Sumpaico SJ - who also heads the Ateneo Scouting Committee and is the JSSN Camp's Overall Consultant- led the Scouts and Scouters in praying for a safe journey and for a successful camp. Following the prayer, he blessed those gathered with holy water and led the Scouts in the recitation of the Scout Oath and Law. 

A quick chat with the AJHS Scouts before they left for the airport revealed that they are most excited about applying their scouting skills & learning new ones, sightseeing in Cebu, and making new friends from other Jesuit schools.  

The first day of the camp's activities today, 5 July 2024, are as follows:

4:00 - 5:00 PM    General Assembly 

5:00 - 6:00 PM    Holy Mass at the Cor Iesu Oratory 

6:00 - 9:00 PM    Dinner and welcome reception at Magis Eagles Arena 

9:00 - 11:00 PM   Getting to Know You 

11:00 PM               Lights out
