Taiwan-Philippines Startup Exchange program 2024: strengthening international collaborations

From 26 to 28 June 2024, Taiwanese startup leaders visited the Philippines as part of the three-day Taiwan-Philippines Startup Exchange Program, co-organized by the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) and QBO Innovation Hub, with support from CrossBond and Startup Terrace. The visiting startups included ChiaTang Info. Co, Ltd., Turing Chain, ChoozMo, Zignet, and Crypto-Arsenal. These startups are involved in Information-Communication Technologies (ICT), AI, web3, and blockchain.

Accenture Philippine Hub for Innovation Tour

On 26 June 2024, delegates toured the Accenture Philippine Hub for Innovation, guided by Mr Arvin Yason, Innovation Lead. The tour showcased VR/XR solutions, blockchain technology, smart city tech, IoT solutions, space technology innovations, and quantum computing advancements. The event concluded with a presentation of generative AI products at the new GenAI Studio, highlighting Accenture’s commitment to technological progress.

Ateneo de Manila University Campus Visit

On 27 June the delegates visited Ateneo de Manila University, starting with a Sustainability Walk showcasing the university’s eco-initiatives. This was followed by a program featuring keynote presentations and a panel discussion on the Philippine business and investment environment. Notable speakers included Engr Maria Conception S Zabala from IPOPHL and Mr Joel Emmanuel C Sumpaico from QC LGU, who provided insights on intellectual property and local business support.

Panel Discussion and Pitch Presentations

Later that day, experts like Dr Roberto Martin N Galang, Mr Jerahmeel Chen, and Mr Roland Benzon discussed market potential and funding opportunities for Taiwanese startups in the Philippines. Following the discussion, startups presented their businesses to a panel of judges, including Mr Ray Alimurung, Engr Benjamin Mirasol, and Ms Phoebe Fontanilla. The event emphasized the importance of international collaborations and market entry strategies.

Taiwan Embassy Visit

The final day, 28 June, featured a courtesy call to Ambassador Wallace Minn-Gan Chow at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, where startups presented their businesses and explored market opportunities in the Philippines.

Overall, the exchange program not only facilitated valuable insights and networking opportunities but also reinforced the importance of collaboration between Taiwan and the Philippines in driving innovation and economic growth. By fostering these international relationships, both countries can look forward to shared technological advancements and business ventures in the future.
