The ASEAN University Network on Ecological Education and Culture (AUN-EEC), housed at the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability, is organizing its 5th annual AUN-EEC Conference on Ecological Education and Culture.
Co-organized with the AUN Thematic Network on Sustainable Cities and Urban Development (AUN-SCUD) housed at the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure Development in Universitas Indonesia, the conference for the year 2024 has the theme “Rewilding the City”, which alludes to the pivotal role of cities, especially in Southeast Asia, in ecological education as they navigate the tensions of culture and modernity and of environment and economy.
In line with this, we invite you to register and attend the virtual conference happening on August 14, 2024 (Wednesday) from 9:00am to 5:00pm (MNL/KL/SG time, GMT +8:00) / 8:00am to 4:00pm (JKT/BKK, GMT +7:00) via Zoom. The “Rewilding the City” conference aims to promote a multidimensional understanding of urban sustainability amidst the tensions in the city through two keynote lectures, one panel discussions, and four paper presentation sessions. As AUN-EEC puts premium on public engagement and localization of ecological issues, the talks aspire to use language that engages and is easily understood by the general public regardless of nationality.

- “Cities and environment”
- “Cities and culture”
Panel discussion: “Best practices in mainstreaming sustainability in Southeast Asian cities”
Parallel sessions:
- Cities as a pedagogical space
- Ecological issues in the city
- Smart cities, urban resilience, and sustainability
- Trends in urban sustainability
Similar to last year, this year’s conference will have registration fees of PHP 500/USD 10, with a discounted rate of PHP 200/ USD 4 for those from AUN-EEC and/or AUN-SCUD members. Fees shall include access to the Zoom room & recording, certificate of participation, and a digital book of abstracts.
