Ateneo de Manila JHS celebrates trifecta of events on 11 September 2024

13 Sep 2024

The morning of Wednesday, 11 September 2024, was jampacked with celebrations and activities for the AJHS community (watch video playing above).

The day began with the Votive Mass for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the covered courts, which was presided by Fr Richard Sumera SJ. In his homily, Fr Sumera challenged the community to be as motherly as Our Lady. He said that we could emulate her by adopting I-N-A in our daily lives: “I” for “I accept,” “N” for “nurturing,” and “A” for action. He elaborated that we could be more like our Blessed Mother by trusting and accepting God’s plans for us, by nurturing one another and all creation, and by always taking action to help others. Fr Sumera emphasized that no act of kindness is too big or too small in the eyes of God.

Following the Mass, the Katipunan Fund Drive (KFD) was launched in a short program before recess. The classes that were assigned to participate in the Drive during the first term had a minute or two onstage to tell the community about their products, with some students donning colorful costumes and bearing placards as part of their pitches.

Recess immediately followed the launch along the AJHS Edsa Walk, during which KFD selling officially began.

After recess, the community once again gathered in the AJHS Covered Courts for “Pinoy Tuntunan,” the culminating activity for Buwan ng Wika 2024. The program featured the colorful “Parada Ng Mga Sikat,” crowd-pleasing performances by faculty and students, and the announcement of winners for competitions like Harana, Tula ng Taon, and Parada ng Mga Sikat.

As AJHS Assistant Principal for Formation (APFor) Ron Capinding posted on his Facebook page:

"NATIVITY OF MARY • KFD LAUNCH • PINOY-TUNTUNAN

Kay susustansya’t kay sasarap na karanasan

kahit na

bawat isa’y preparation-intensive,

bumagyo nang matagal last week, at

sumabay sa paghahanda sa PAASCU visit…

It’s really the AJHS Magis/Magic!"
