NEWS | Hackers are holding schools to ransom after seizing control of their computer systems

UNITED KINGDOM – Hackers infected the IT network of Flylde Coast Academy Trust, leaving the school with limited access to its system. The hackers are demanding a substantial amount of money and are threatening to block the school’s access to its own system if their demand is not fully paid. READ MORE

 

NEWS | DFA concerned about possible data breaches at state-owned passport printer

PHILIPPINES – The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is concerned about data breaches that may have been experienced the APO Production Unit, the state-owned company that prints Philippine passports. According to the agency, they are not happy with APO’s performance because of the said possibility and APO’s lack of admission as to the gravity or degree of said breaches.  READ MORE

 

NEWS | Hackers demand ransom after attack on Delaware libraries

US – Computer labs at Delaware libraries were shut down when hackers took control of the servers that run the facility’s public-use computers. Hackers are demanding money before return to the state said control. The Delaware Division of Libraries Director has dismissed the idea of paying, and is instead recommending the rebuilding of the servers.  READ MORE

AUSTRALIA – Over 6 out of 10 children with access to the internet will interact with strangers online on a daily basis despite warnings of rising online grooming crimes against them. NEWS | Operation “Hunting the Ghost Sims” leads to arrest of more than 2000 scammers

THAILAND – The Royal Thai Police has arrested more than 2000 online scammers under its “Hunting the Ghost Sims” operation. The initiative is in line with the Prime Minister’s recent policy announcement to Parliament that prioritizes tackling online crime by bolstering law enforcement's capacity to prevent and suppress call center scams and swiftly address online criminal activities.  READ MORE
