[AGS] Week of the Elderly

On September 26, 1994, President Fidel V. Ramos issued Proclamation No. 470 as Elderly Filipino Week. 
The proclamation establishes the obligation of the Executive Department, through the Department of Social Welfare and Development, to implement a social welfare program supporting the well-being of the elderly.

Showing respect for our elderly is a tradition in the Philippines. When a Filipino child meets an older family member, the youth customarily greets them with a gesture called “pagmamano”, and the greeting “mano po”.  The young one
takes the hand of the older relative and places it on his or her forehead to express profound respect for the elder. Filipinos also show respect by saying “po” and “opo” when speaking or responding to our elderly.

As one Grade School Community, we encourage the nation as we celebrate National Filipino Elderly Week to honor and appreciate their contribution to nation-building. We continue to build a culture of love and respect in our community when we greet everyone with politeness and esteem - from our classmates to our pals, other students, and all teachers. We also recognize the invaluable contributions of our retired teachers and administrators in shaping our school into what it is now. We invite everyone to make this happen: "In AGS, we love and make room for our elders."

Together, let us practice these in our daily lives:
            I share God’s love with our elders.
            I believe in how they inspire and help us grow.
            I care for them dearly and respectfully.
            I choose to honor and show kindness to them all the time.
            I can sincerely help and assist them.
