A two-day testament to the power of scouting

01 Dec 2024

On Friday, 22 November 2024, the AGS Boy Scouts embarked on a significant journey through the inspiring Investiture Ceremony and an exciting weekend of Backyard Camping. The event was a meaningful convergence of tradition, purpose, and camaraderie, as our scouts committed themselves to the values of leadership and service, guided by scouting principles and our school's five core values of Christ-centeredness, commitment, conscience, compassion, and competence.

The day commenced with a solemn Processional and Entrance of Colors, setting the tone for the momentous occasion. Scout Lucian Andres G. Tiston led a heartfelt prayer, followed by the Philippine National Anthem presented via AVP. The program unfolded with Sctr. Ariette Pacle delivered uplifting opening remarks, reminding everyone of the responsibilities and privileges of scouting and then asking the scouts to salute their parents as a symbol of respect and gratitude. The Handover of the Charter and the speech of the BSP QC CSE Sctr. Errol Garcia highlighted the legacy and vision of our scouting community.

One of the most moving moments was when Vice President for Basic Education and Ateneo Scouting Chairperson Fr. Jonjee Sumpaico SJ blessed the neckerchiefs that symbolize the unity and faith that bind our scouts. Fr. Jonjee also officiated the Oath-Taking Ceremonies for new Scoutmasters, the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL), and the newly invested Boy Scouts. The Investiture Ceremony, led by Sctr. Mark Catarroja, was a proud moment as the scouts received the neckerchiefs which embody their commitment to growth and service. Equally inspiring was the Oath-Taking of Parents guided by Sctr. Virgie Esteves, who emphasized the essential role of parents in nurturing the character and skills of their children following the scouting principles and the school's 5Cs. Sctr. AGS Headmaster Jervy Robles concluded the program with words of gratitude and encouragement, reminding everyone of the lifelong values that scouting instills.

The excitement extended into the weekend with the much-anticipated Backyard Camping. Despite the physical demands of the activities, the boys participated with boundless energy and enthusiasm. The 1st Search for Mr. Boy Scout highlighted the importance of a scout's creativity, humor, and confidence while also showcasing knowledge of scouting principles and values. Friday night ended with the lively Campfire, which brought the attendees together with yells, chants, and presentations that reinforced their sense of unity and scout spirit.

The second day of camping, Saturday, 23 November 2024, was equally enriching, filled with skill-building activities and challenges designed to advance the scouts’ competence and teamwork. These tasks fostered resilience, leadership, and a deep appreciation for shared responsibilities.

Though tired, the boys emerged from the weekend with renewed vigor, enriched by the lessons and values of scouting. They experienced and manifested firsthand the importance of Christ-centeredness in their actions, commitment to their goals, conscientious decision-making, compassion for others, and competence in their endeavors. A meaningful mass and friendship circle ended the two-day celebration of the AGS' unique scouting spirit.

The school deeply appreciates the hard work and dedication of our scout masters who planned and executed this unforgettable experience. Their efforts ensured that our scouts not only enjoyed the activities but also learned meaningful skills and values that will guide them in their personal and collective journeys.

The weekend was a testament to the power of scouting in shaping future leaders who are rooted in faith, integrity, and service.
