06 Dec 2024

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Senior High School debaters Arianne Co (12-Walpole) and Jesu Manzano (11-Hurtado) were awarded as Asia's 7th Best Senior Speaker and Asia's 15th Best Senior Speaker, respectively, in the inaugural Singapore International Schools’ Debate Championship (SISDC).

Held on 22-24 November 2024 in the United World College (UWC) South East Asia Dover Campus in Singapore, the first ever SISDC attracted 259 skilled debaters from 12 countries in Asia, including China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Philippines. As such, SISDC has quickly established itself as one of the largest and most competitive World Schools debate tournaments in the region based on attendance.

Per the SISDC Facebook page, SISDC 2024 was “an inaugural in-person WSDC (World Schools Debating Championships) international event for high school debaters around the world, primarily focused on Asian WSDC national teams, and teams from schools and debate academies.”

Also participating in SISDC were ASHS Debaters Kai Cabrera (12-Daniel), Dior Gothong (11-Tsuji), Josh Ong Ante (11-Tsuji), Mico Siosana (11-Fontoura), Sian Transmontero (12-Kibe), and Vi Valera (12-Grodecky). The contingent was chaperoned in Singapore by Marydel Alaba, ASHS Council of Student Organizations Moderator.
