Last 18 January 2025, the Ateneo Institute of Sustainability (AIS) took part in the celebration of climate action held at Ubuntu Space, Areté, as one of the exhibitors of Likasiyahan: A Joyful Climate Action Fair.

Likasiyahan was a whole-day event organized by Jungle Gym Play Laboratory (JGL) – a collective of artists and cultural workers who design and facilitate creative experiences that harness the power of art and games for social action. JGL is also a recipient of the Sandbox Residency Program by Areté.

AIS contributed to the event as one of the workshop facilitators, presenting “Walking the Talk: A Campus Sustainability Walk Around the Ateneo.” This sustainability walking tour offered a unique opportunity to explore the journey of the University’s commitment to integral ecology.

The workshop was led by Ms Angel Mata-Jamilan and Ms Ivy Geraldine Ferrer, Program Officers for Organizational Sustainability and Climate and Disaster Resilience, respectively. The tour began at the Arboretum of 101 Native Trees and concluded at the Rizal Library, with much of the exploration taking place within the Higher Education complex.

During the walk, participants had the opportunity to see firsthand the University’s various sustainability initiatives, including wastewater treatment systems, the promotion of urban biodiversity, improvements in waste management, and more. Participants also contributed their insights into the sustainability practices at Ateneo, emphasizing collaboration with stakeholders and neighboring communities. The walk encouraged an open, interactive discussion to have an engaging workshop experience.

Meanwhile, AIS’ booth was managed by Mr Daniel C Ratilla, Program Head for Climate and Disaster Resilience, who introduced a variety of AIS’ resources and knowledge products.

Among the materials showcased were the City Resilience Toolkit (CResT), Sustainable Eco-Theatre (SET) Packet, The Ateneo Wild coloring books, Baligtarin Mo! cards, and more. Additionally, question prompts displayed at the booth encouraged reflections on the University’s path toward sustainability, as well as information on the creative features of the MCR-ADMU Regional Hub.

The event also featured various ceremonies and workshops, and allowed attendees and exhibitors to engage with each other. Likasiyahan offered all involved to form connections and network for future collaborations.
