From 12 to 26 March 2025, Ms Vanessa Malapit, MSc, Head of the Protection and Education Group at the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO), proudly participated in the first batch Patent Agents and Patent Attorneys Training Course. The event was organized by the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines(IPOPHL) through its IP Academy, in partnership with the Bureau of Patents (BOP), Bureau of Legal Affairs (BLA), and the Association of PAQE Professionals, Inc. (APPI).

Held at the University of the Philippines BGC Campus, this 11-day comprehensive training brought together 65 participants from government agencies, academic institutions, and private organizations from all over the Philippines. The program was designed to equip them with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in all aspects of patent services and to become IPOPHL-recognized patent agents and attorneys.

Ms Vanessa Malapit represented AIPO in this landmark training, demonstrating the office’s commitment to strengthening its expertise in patent protection and its continued support for innovation within the academic and research communities.

The training covered a broad range of topics, including patentability searches, drafting, prosecution, and enforcement of patents. Resource speakers from IPOPHL and the broader intellectual property community shared valuable practical insights and legal frameworks necessary for effective patent work.

“Being part of this pioneering batch was truly a learning experience. It’s exciting to bring back this knowledge to the university and use it to better guide inventors and innovators,” said Ms Malapit.

The Ateneo Intellectual Property Office expresses its gratitude to IPOPHL for hosting this significant event and remains steadfast in its mission to support initiatives that promote intellectual property awareness, protection, and innovation all in service of national development.

Being part of the first batch of the Patent Agents and Attorneys Training Course was not only a comprehensive learning experience but also a valuable opportunity to connect with fellow professionals in the Philippine IP community. AIPO is excited to apply the insights gained from this pioneering program to strengthen its support for inventors, researchers, and institutions. As it continues to build capacity in patent services, AIPO reaffirms its commitment to nurturing innovation and contributing to the country’s growing intellectual property ecosystem.
