ASHS debaters reach open semifinals at 2025 Vietnam ASDC

Representing the Philippines, the team composed of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) debaters Kai Cabrera (12-Daniel, Class of 2025), Vi Valera (12-Grodecky, Class of 2025), and Jesu Manzano (11-Hurtado) advanced to the Open Semifinals of the 2025 Vietnam Asian Schools Debating Championship (ASDC), one of Asia’s premier debating tournaments. Vietnam ASDC was held from 15 to 18 June 2025 in Hanoi, Vietnam.
ASDC 2025 gathered over 60 teams and 220 debaters from 11 countries. Ateneo broke into the elimination rounds as the 12th seed in the Open Category. The Ateneans outperformed delegations from Vietnam, Homeschool Global, China, Team Nepal, and notably, the Philippines’ National Team—the eventual champions of the tournament—before falling in the semifinals.
ASHS’ strong showing against some of the best debaters in the region continues Ateneo’s tradition of excellence in competitive debating on the international stage.
