AJHS mathlete Paco Javier earns Gold and “Legend Award” for PH at WMI Final Round 2025

Representing the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila Junior High School mathlete Paco Javier (9-Goto) clinched a Gold Medal and the prestigious “Legend Award” at the World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) Final Round 2025, held in Thailand from 25 to 29 July 2025. The competition took place at the Ambassador Hotel Bangkok.
The Legend Award is a rare distinction granted only to WMI Final Round medalists who have earned either a Gold or Diamond Medal for three consecutive years. Paco’s exceptional track record includes a Gold Medal in 2023, a Diamond Medal and the Star of the World Award in 2024, and another Gold Medal in 2025 — securing his place among the competition’s most outstanding performers.
The Philippine delegation delivered a stellar performance overall, earning two Overall Champion titles, four Legend Awards, two Diamond Awards, 17 Gold Awards, 31 Silver Awards, and 104 Bronze Awards. These remarkable achievements underscore the Filipino students’ excellence in mathematical problem-solving and logical reasoning, bringing pride and inspiration to the nation.
The World Mathematics Invitational (WMI) is a prestigious international competition founded in Taiwan, uniting institutions and organizations committed to promoting mathematics worldwide. It offers students the opportunity to engage with fellow math enthusiasts from around the globe, broaden their international perspectives, and immerse themselves in diverse cultures — fostering both academic and personal growth.
The 2025 WMI Final Round welcomed over 1,700 students from 23 countries, including Bangladesh, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Türkiye, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
