Arthaland donates two e-Jeep units to Ateneo for its internal shuttle system
12 Sep 2025
In support of Ateneo de Manila University’s continuing journey toward becoming a Laudato Si’ university, Arthaland has generously donated two new electric jeepney (e-Jeep) units to the University for its internal shuttle system. The donation reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to sustainability, responsible stewardship, and care for our common home. It also embodies the Ignatian value of Magis—the call to do more, and to do better, for others and for the environment.
The donation was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held on 5 September 2025. Representing Arthaland were Kiesha Francesca C Silayan, Marketing Manager; and Oliver L Chan, Senior Vice President. From Ateneo, the signatories were Rodolfo P Ang, Vice President for Administration; together with Jaime Ignacio, Assistant to the VPA; and Joseph Almosera, Director of the Campus Safety and Mobility Office.
Ateneo’s e-transport system, first introduced in 2013 through a lease agreement with a service provider, has steadily grown over the years as part of the University’s commitment to eco-friendly mobility solutions. In 2014, Ateneo acquired four e-Jeep units from MServ, a Meralco subsidiary, with Meralco also donating a charging station constructed beside Gate 2.
With the addition of Arthaland’s two 13-seater e-Jeeps, the Ateneo fleet will expand to 12 units—ten owned by the University and two leased—serving the Loyola Heights campus community. The system currently operates Monday to Friday, 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays, 6:00 am to 1:00 pm, covering the following routes:
- Line A: AGS – JSEC Mall – Xavier Hall – Cervini – LHS
- Line B (regular): Areté – Xavier Hall – Cervini – JHS – SHS/FLC – Bellarmine
- Line B (express): Areté – Bellarmine – JHS – SHS/FLC – Bellarmine – SDC
These new e-Jeeps are expected to accommodate an additional 680 passengers per day (about 340 passengers per unit), while also reducing average waiting times by 2–4 minutes for riders.
Ateneo is deeply grateful to Arthaland for this meaningful contribution. Beyond enhancing mobility and efficiency on campus, this donation strengthens the University’s resolve to advance sustainability, reduce its carbon footprint, and live out its identity as a Laudato Si’ University. In true Ignatian spirit, it is also an invitation to the Ateneo community to embrace Magis—to go further in building a greener, more sustainable, and more compassionate campus.
Through initiatives such as the e-Jeep system, Ateneo continues to take concrete steps toward becoming a University for the nation, for others, and for our common home.
