Ateneo’s Eclipse Consulting team wins bronze at HKUST International Case Competition 2025

06 Oct 2025

Eclipse Consulting at HKICC 2025

Eclipse Consulting, a team from the John Gokongwei School of Management of Ateneo de Manila University, earned a second runner-up finish at the recently concluded HKUST International Case Competition (HKICC) 2025. The recognition marks Ateneo’s first-ever trophy—in its first year of participation—at one of the world’s premier undergraduate business case competitions.

Eclipse Consulting is composed of Kyla Go (5 BS ME), Tiffany Del Rosario (4 BS ME), Alaina Ligot (4 BS ME), and Patricia Uy (4 BS CTM). The team was coached by Louie Miranda (BS MGT 2023), Trina Hombre (BS MGT 2024), Monica Sugay (BS MGT-H 2024), and James Soriano (BS MGT-H 2012).

Hosted annually by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), the 2025 HKICC took place from September 28 to October 3 at the HKUST campus. The event brought together sixteen of the world’s top business schools for a week of rigorous problem-solving and boardroom presentations.

During the competition, teams were challenged to solve two real-world business cases from HKICC’s main sponsor, HSBC. In the preliminary round, participants proposed AI-powered solutions for HSBC relationship managers. In the succeeding round, teams were tasked to advise HSBC on leveraging artificial intelligence to combat deepfake-driven cyber fraud and strengthen its position in the global AI landscape.

After a challenging start—placing last in their preliminary round division—Eclipse Consulting made a remarkable comeback in the 24-hour round, outperforming Thammasat University, the University of South Carolina, and HKUST. Their solution was praised for its structured analysis, strategic balance, and clear implementation roadmap that addressed both the technological and organizational aspects of the challenge.

Their performance qualified them for the Challenge Round, where they advanced over the University of Auckland (TIE Ranking: #152), University of Maastricht (#132), and University of Alberta (#116) to earn a coveted spot in the Finals.

In the Final Round, the team competed against HKUST (#66), the National University of Singapore (#17), Chulalongkorn University (#1 in Thailand), and the University of New South Wales (#83), ultimately securing third place overall. Chulalongkorn University and the University of New South Wales were named first and second place winners, respectively.

Eclipse Consulting’s strong showing at HKICC 2025 underscores the discipline, creativity, and critical thinking that Ateneo students bring to the global stage. More than a competition, it was an opportunity to engage deeply with pressing business challenges, apply classroom learning to real-world contexts, and embody the excellence that defines an Ateneo education.
