ASOG Executive Education Program Cultivates Resilient, Empathetic, and Adaptive Leaders through REAL Course
15 Oct 2025
The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG), through its Executive Education Program, recently conducted a two-day public course titled “Resilience, Empathy, and Adaptability in Leadership (REAL)” on 9–10 October 2025 at the Ateneo de Manila University campus. The course empowered participants to deepen their understanding of leadership grounded in integrity, human connection, and responsiveness—qualities essential for navigating today’s complex and fast-changing environment.

Through interactive discussions, case studies, and role-playing exercises, participants explored practical ways to lead with resilience amid uncertainty, exercise empathy in decision-making, and adapt effectively to shifting governance and organizational realities. These competencies are increasingly vital in a world characterized by volatility and unpredictability, where leaders must remain grounded while inspiring others to move forward with clarity and purpose.

The training gathered participants from Local Government Units (LGUs) and the private sector, reflecting a shared commitment to continuous learning and to strengthening leadership capacities that foster inclusive and accountable governance.

The course was facilitated by a team of seasoned practitioners and educators: Dr. Edgardo Valenzuela and Dr. Cristina Liamzon, core faculty members of ASoG, together with Atty. Aubrey Albo-Perez and Mr. Jeronimo “Mimo” Perez, seasoned resource persons of ASoG’s ALSE OF-Life Program. Drawing from their extensive experience in leadership, governance, and social development, they guided participants in integrating values-based and adaptive leadership principles that promote ethical and transformative leadership.

In her closing remarks, Dean Jennifer S. Oreta, PhD, congratulated the participants and underscored that “Resilience, empathy, and adaptability are at the heart of effective leadership—especially for those who serve in the public sector. These are the qualities that enable leaders to listen, respond, and act with both courage and compassion.” She reaffirmed ASoG’s continuing mission to nurture leaders for the common good, ready to face emerging governance challenges with competence and conscience.
