7th grader Zia Uy triumphs at national piano competition

Ateneo de Manila Junior High School pianist Zia Uy (7-Andlauer) achieved a Gold Prize/Winner in the Piano Category B Junior at the MNL Music Prix 2025, held on 17 August 2025 at the Globe Auditorium, Maybank Performing Arts Theater in BGC, Taguig.

Featuring competitions in guitar, piano, and voice, the MNL Music Prix concluded with a Winners' Gala.

Two days after her win, Zia was invited to perform at a student recital held at Goldenberg Mansion in Malacañang on 19 August 2025. At the event, Zia- who is hearing impaired- performed pieces by Chopin, Mozart, and Johann Sebastian Bach.

Zia's musical journey began at age five and includes performances in various piano festivals organized by the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Piano Teachers’ Guild of the Philippines Foundation Inc. (PTGPFI). Her prior competition successes include Third Place in the Filipino Category of the 2024 PTGPFI competition and an Honorable Mention in the Vietnam International Piano Competition (Chopin and Open Category). She is currently mentored by Jennifer Yapchiongco and Anthony Yu Say.
