On 30 October, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) conducted an Intellectual Property (IP) awareness session for the Technopreneurship class of Dr Erees Queen Macabebe from the Department of Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering, School of Science and Engineering. This session is part of their initiative to equip engineering students with foundational knowledge about IP protection and Ateneo's IP policy.

Led by AIPO's Protection and Education Group, including Ms Vanessa Malapit and Ms Madielaine Fatallo, the session focused on the critical role IP plays in technology-driven ventures. Students learned about various forms of IP—patents, utility models, industrial designs, trademarks, and copyrights—and how these assets can be leveraged to foster commercial success in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

Mr Bryan Erfe from AIPO's Commercialization and Business Incubation Group also provided insights into the Ateneo IP policy, emphasizing how university-supported research, technology transfer, and commercialization systems can help safeguard innovations. The session encouraged students to integrate strategic IP planning early in their development processes, showcasing how IP protection can become a competitive advantage and fuel the growth of their ventures.

Some examples of Ateneo innovations were shared, illustrating how IP protection accelerates commercialization. This approach sparked collaboration among students, emphasizing that IP is not just a legal concept but a powerful tool for entrepreneurial success.

The session ultimately empowered students to view IP as an essential aspect of their entrepreneurial journey, not just for legal protection but as a means to turn ideas into marketable solutions. With a focus on driving innovation and societal impact, students were encouraged to engage with AIPO and leverage the University's resources to advance their innovations toward success.
