Canva and Facebook Training
Third-year AB Communication students enrolled in NSTP12-Bigkis facilitated a media literacy workshop for their partner community on October 22 and November 8, 2025. Eight members from the BADAC and VAWC departments of Brgy. Tumana, Marikina City, joined the activity as part of the NSTP12-Bigkis students’ culminating activity. The staff gained basic skills in navigating the various features of the Canva online graphic design application and Facebook. The training was designed to address the need of the aforementioned organization to enhance their online visibility and reach to the public particularly.
Navigating Meta Business Suite
Aside from learning to navigate the Canvas application, the participants highlighted their newfound knowledge on the benefits of using Meta Business Suite. "Ganyan lang pala kadali magpalipat-lipat ng account?", says one of the participants. Now, they won't find it difficult to switch from one account to another.
In addition, they were taught to edit their respective department's official business account to update their followers or constituents on special events, important announcements, alongside creating an online calendar and scheduled posting. "Technology made our tasks easier."
Students patiently taught each participant using their own gadgets, like a mobile phone and a laptop. While all of the participants have knowledge of using their personal social media accounts, they needed much effort to use their department’s Facebook page. One of them mentioned that he is only keen on ‘liking and sharing’ posts but he’s not into posting content on their department’s account. They said that their barangay leaders have been encouraging them to always update their official accounts.
Learnings and Recommendations
“Malaking bagay na natuto akong gamitin ang Canva sa mobile phone para mabilis lang makapagpost ng balita sa Facebook page namin", shares Kagawad Kiel Nunez, one of the participants. "It's not too late to learn something new", added another participant. They hope that next time, they would like to learn how to take beautiful pictures and videos.
