On 26 January 2026, the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office (AIPO) conducted an intellectual property (IP) awareness session for BS Chemistry and Materials Science Engineering students of Dr Erwin P Enriquez. The session aimed to provide students with a foundational understanding of IP matters, specifically tailored to the needs of those studying chemistry and materials science engineering.

Mr Bryan Erfe, Business Development Officer at AIPO, kicked off the session with an engaging introduction to the office's services. He highlighted the importance of IP in research and innovation and explained how AIPO supports faculty, students, and researchers in generating, protecting, and commercializing their creations through various AIPO services.

An overview of Ateneo's IP policy was incorporated into the session, providing students with insight into the university's approach to IP protection and commercialization. This helped students understand the institutional framework that supports their work in academic and research settings.

The session also featured a comprehensive talk on basic IP matters by Atty Jillian Maxine Quimson, who tailored the discussion specifically for chemistry students. Atty Quimson explained the fundamentals of patents, utility models, and other IP assets relevant to the students' fields of study. The discussion helped demystify complex IP concepts and highlighted the significance of IP in the field of scientific innovation.

To wrap up the session, a quick Q&A portion was held, allowing students to ask questions and seek clarification on any IP-related topics. The session provided a valuable opportunity for students to engage directly with AIPO and further deepen their understanding of the importance of IP in their scientific fields.

The session was a great success, empowering students with knowledge that will aid them in their academic and professional journeys, fostering a stronger appreciation for the role of intellectual property in innovation.
