Booked for adventure: a National Book Week 2025 recap
09 Jan 2026
The Ateneo Grade School and the Katigbak Educational Media Center celebrated National Book Week last November 17-21, 2025, adapting this year’s theme from the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa.” The KEMC transformed into a safari-themed jungle, featuring a symbolic book bridge that invites readers into another world as they open a book. With that all out of the way, here are the highlights of the week of celebration.
The celebration kicked off with a storytelling session for Grade 1 students at Singson Hall on November 5, 2025. Led by Ms. Nikki De Guzman, the Grade Level Coordinator, Mrs. Millette Balisi, the Subject Area Coordinator, and the KEMC Team, the students listened to a delightful story, “Bumbilita” by Marc Boquiren, told by Ms. Keanne Jodie M. Zulueta, or Ate Keanne, which ended with a trivia activity and a fun surprise from the KEMC.
On November 17, the Ateneo Grade School community dressed up as their favorite book characters. Everyone posed for photos with a sense of thrill and excitement on KEMC’s themed bridge, which brought their chosen characters to life. On the same day, students began participating in the Daily Library Trivia, in which trivia questions were hidden around the KEMC, giving them a chance to win prizes announced during lunchtime on November 24.
Additionally, Fleet Battleship Game energized the lunch breaks as students battled head-to-head at the Carpeted Area. From November 17–21, students also enjoyed the 4 Pics, 1 Book challenge at the Exhibit Area, solving the daily puzzle for a chance to win.
The Book Fair offered a wide selection of titles from partner bookstores, allowing students, teachers, and staff to browse and take home their favorite books.
A perfect moment to recharge and explore.
Teachers, staff, and professionals relaxed at the KEMC Café in the Faculty Area, where they browsed new books and AV materials. The Incentive Card Program, which began on November 17 and will run until February 6, 2026, offers a chance to win special prizes for the first five individuals who complete their stamps.
A set of scheduled games also awaits the library visitors, including Robot Coding, Dart Game, Ladder Toss, and Frisbee Game. The faculty version of 4 Pics, 1 Book also ran daily, with winners drawn the following day.
Feeling lucky today? Aside from the scheduled games, the Lucky Pick challenge gave everyone a chance to test their trivia skills. Those whose luck was on their side went home with instant prizes.
On November 18, three representatives from each sector participated in Read and Decipher in the KEMC Intermediate Room.
Creativity took center stage as the celebration reached its peak.
On November 21, winners, together with their parents, were recognized for the Bookmark Making Contest for Grades 3 and 4 and the Poetry Writing Contest for Grades 5 and 6. Their impressive pieces were showcased and awarded by the KEMC team.
And the excitement continued
On November 24, the winners of the Daily Library Trivia and Day 5 of 4 Pics, 1 Book for teachers, staff, and professionals were announced.
To conclude the month-long celebration, on November 28, the KEMC, in partnership with the Quezon City Public Library Puppeteers and Storytellers, held the Kinder Storytelling Activity. The Kinder students were amazed by the performance and actively participated throughout the session.
The KEMC team sincerely thanks everyone for being part of this celebration. May we always appreciate the joy, excitement, creativity, and imagination that reading brings, guiding us toward a bright and hopeful future.
