Alumnus scholar Jasper Cañero gives back with scholarship for deserving Ateneo College student
19 Mar 2026
In the spirit of gratitude and generosity, Mr Jasper Cañero, Chief Financial Officer of Edelyn’s Homemade Nuts, is establishing the Edelyn’s Homemade Nuts Inc. Scholarship to support a deserving Ateneo College student. A BS Management graduate in 2008, Mr Cañero was inspired to establish the scholarship because of his own experience as an Ateneo College scholar.
“[T]he struggles we experience are not meaningless. They shape our compassion. They remind us why helping matters,” Mr Cañero shared in his message. “So today, in our own small way, my family and I hope to extend the same opportunity that was once given to me—to another deserving student.”
The donation towards a four-year scholarship grant was formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement on 12 March 2026 at Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola Heights Campus.
Mr Cañero was joined by representatives from the Ateneo Scholarship Foundation (ASF) and the Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association (AASA): Mr Simon R Paterno II, Chairman of the ASF; Ms Ma. Lorna Datiles-Fabian, President of AASA; and Ms Julia Cristina A Morata, Mr Victor Emmanuel S Claravall, and Ms Rosalydele T Bajao, Members of the Board of Directors of AASA.
Meanwhile, the University was represented by Ms Eloisa D Balmoris, Vice President for Finance and Treasurer; Fr Raymund Benedict “RB” Q Hizon SJ, Director of University Development and Alumni Affairs; and Ms Christine E Magboo, Scholarships and Financial Aid Head of the Office of Admission and Aid - Undergraduate Education.
The scholarship donation will support the tuition and fees of Carl Jhenkinz Cortez, a first-year BS Legal Management AASA scholar, who was also present to witness the MOA signing.
The Ateneo Alumni Scholars Association will manage the scholarship and provide annual reports to the donor on the scholar’s academic performance and the status of the fund.
This generous donation demonstrates the enduring bond between Ateneo and its alumni, who continue to give back by contributing to the University’s commitment to inclusivity and access to quality education, and by sharing in its mission of forming persons-for-others.
