Ateneo de Manila University congratulates Dr Charlie Samuya Veric, Director of the Literary and Cultural Studies Program, for being recognized as the 2025 NRCP Achievement Awardee for Division XI - Humanities by the Governing Board of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) during its 1,111th board meeting on 27 January 2026.

Dr Veric is the Director of the Literary and Cultural Studies Program of the School of Humanities of Ateneo de Manila University. His research interests include poetry, intellectual history, modern art, and Philippine studies. Dr Veric was also the recipient of the Ricardo Leong Grant for Lectures in Philippine Studies for the academic year 2024-2025. He delivered his lecture, titled “The American Colonial Origins of Filipinization,” during the 2025 Leong Institute Fellows Forum.

In its citation, the NRCP board lauded Dr Veric as "one of the most compelling intellectuals of his generation."

"Dr Veric displays extraordinary depth and breadth, offering fresh and incisive insights into the intersections of literature, history, art, culture and society," reads the citation. "His landmark work reconstructs the conceptual foundations of postcolonial statehood after 1946. Through scholarly writings marked by clarity, rigor, and elegance, he situates Filipino texts within the global history of ideas, enriching the discourse on Philippine and world literature while professing the singularity of the arts in understanding our time."

"As an educator, he (Dr Veric) has inspired students to read passionately, think independently, and engage deeply with ideas. Beyond the university, his lectures, essays, and curations bring critical thought to wider publics, reaffirming the humanities as vital to our civic life and national identity."

Ateneo de Manila University congratulates Dr Veric on receiving this prestigious award from the NRCP.
