Information on upgrades and improvements to the North Carpark, Loyola Heights campus
What is the project about?
The North Carpark in the Loyola Heights campus will undergo upgrade works from 21 December 2023 to 2 March 2024.
Paving stones will be laid out on the parking slots, and the driveways will be asphalted. The upgrade works also include eliminating uneven asphalt surfaces; optimizing parking capacity; constructing pedestrian walkways; installation of streetlights and walkway lighting fixtures for enhanced visibility; improving lane markings and signages; and the creation of a mini park.
A total of 82 trees, mostly invasive mahogany and gimelina species, will be removed, and their wood will be recycled and repurposed. Ateneo will replace each tree with 50 seedlings, totalling to 4,100 seedlings to be delivered to the DENR compound.
Once finished, the North Carpark will see an increase of parking slots from 161 to 217. There will also be better pedestrian access, covered walkways, improved drainage, better traffic flow, and a rest area for drivers.
What is the timeline for the project?
The project will be done in two phases, from 21 December 2023 to 2 March 2024.
Phase 1: 21 Dec 2023 to 28 Jan 2024
East half (near Bellarmine Field/Xavier Hall) will be under construction.
Fifty (50) parking slots on the west half (near ASOG) will be available.
Phase 2: 28 Jan to 2 Mar 2024
East half will be opened, with 166 parking slots available.
West half will be under construction.
What are the alternative parking areas for affected motorists?
The number of parking slots in the North Carpark will be temporarily reduced during the upgrade period.
Affected vehicles will be allowed to use parking at the University Residence Halls, as well as the Grade School parking (afternoon only).
