27 Oct 2025
A team from Ateneo de Manila Senior High School—composed of Maxine Agno (11-Gavan), Richard Hernandez (11-Escribano), and Jay Tacason (11-Perez)—won 3rd place in the 2025 National Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Quiz Bee, which featured 20 competing teams from various schools across Metro Manila and Bataan.
Their coach, Mr Arvin Joseph B Villamil, who also serves as the ASHS Aninaw Special Committee Moderator, was likewise honored as the author of one of the Top 10 Outstanding MIL-Integrated Lesson Plans during the 2025 Global Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Week Celebration, organized by the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT) and held from 24 to 31 October 2025 in many countries, including the Philippines.
The awarding and presentation of the winning lesson plans were held on Sunday, 26 October 2025, at the Citadines Hotel Residence in Quezon City.
The National MIL Quiz Bee forms part of the country’s observance of Global Media and Information Literacy Week (GMILW), an international initiative led by UNESCO and the NCCT to promote critical thinking, responsible media use, and fact-checking among Filipino learners. The competition encourages students to apply their understanding of media literacy, digital citizenship, and information evaluation—skills essential in today’s information-driven world.
By engaging students in this intellectually stimulating contest, the NCCT aims to showcase how educators and learners can creatively integrate Media and Information Literacy into education, making learning more engaging, relevant, and empowering. This year’s event attracted 34 entries from public and private school teachers nationwide for the MIL-Integrated Lesson Plan competition.
The recognition of both the Ateneo team and their coach highlights the school’s strong commitment to fostering informed, critical, and responsible digital citizens. It also demonstrates how teaching and learning at Ateneo continue to evolve in response to the challenges of misinformation and the need for ethical media engagement.
Congratulations to our students and to Mr Villamil for this remarkable achievement, exemplifying the Atenean spirit of magis and excellence in the age of media and technology.
