I. Background

The Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) is the public sector arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. The School’s long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants. It aims to contribute in building prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes.

As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision-making and governance. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private, and community organizations, ASOG continues to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in areas such as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.

II. Tasks and Functions

The Research and Training Assistant (Ateneo Bangsamoro Initiative) shall be part of the project development team expected to implement projects that provides assistance to various stakeholders in BARMM through  research, technical assistance, and capacity building initiatives.

The Research and Training Assistant is expected to:

1. Provide assistance to the Project Development Team in undertaking research work that will funnel into a training program, specifically by conducting reviews and analyses of literature, development of research instruments, data gathering, data analysis, and write-ups related to the development of training modules, learning materials, case studies, and other related reports;
2. Assist in the preparations of administrative requirements and logistics for events organized by the Project Team, which may include but are not limited to physical or online trainings and capacity-building interventions, conferences, seminars, and research colloquia;
3. Serve as coordinator in all field missions required in the project implementation;
4. Provide assistance in the completion of reports and lead the preparations of other administrative and financial documents as required in the project implementation;
5. Continuous development and maintenance of databases (e.g. database of participants, partners, conferences, experts) for the expansion of networks;
6. Attend meetings and report to the office according to a schedule set by the Project Development Team.

III.  Description of Education, Competence, and Required Experience

Applicants for the Ateneo Policy Center - Research and Training Assistant position must have the following qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in any social science, public policy, or community development with excellent academic performance;
• At least 2 years experience in research and policy work, project management for training and capacity building activities;
• Demonstrates knowledge in governance and institutions, civic and voters education, youth and development, public opinion, and/or political economy; knowledge in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is an advantage;
• Can efficiently handle and deliver outputs with minimal supervision;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills;
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with keen attention to detail and the ability to work in a team;
• Physically fit to travel in BARMM areas; and
• Flexibility to adapt to a dynamic work environment.
