Meeting advances MicroCASA project goals in Southeast Asia

On 23 May 2025, a meeting was held with members of the ERASMUS+ project MicroCASA: Micro-credentials for life-long learning and employability—Building Capacities for developing Agile educational interventions in Southeast Asian universities (Project ID: 101081924), coordinated by the Universität Des Saarlandes.

Among the participants was Dr Dennis Batangan, faculty of the Political Science Department and Research Fellow at the Institute of Philippine Culture (RGL-SOSS, Ateneo de Manila University).

The meeting focused on the development of micro-credentials in Southeast Asia, recognition mechanisms, and digital platforms, as well as engaging policy stakeholders and exploring project cooperation. MicroCASA is the first international initiative dedicated to sharing European experiences and building institutional capacities in Southeast Asia to create and promote short, competence-oriented educational units—micro-credentials—to address social and economic challenges.

The project covers course content co-creation, educational technology, transparent quality assurance, and digital issuance and verification of micro-credentials. Its comprehensive approach aims to empower Southeast Asian universities to lead in innovative educational practices.

MicroCASA, which runs from March 2023 to February 2026, includes 11 partners: 3 European universities, the Italian NARIC Agency, a quality assurance expert company, and 6 Southeast Asian universities with both national and regional development roles. Associated partners include the Philippines’ Department of Health and Department of Agriculture, Indonesia’s IDREN, and Malaysia’s MQA.

The meeting underscored a shared vision of advancing lifelong learning, promoting employability, and forging meaningful connections between European and Southeast Asian institutions to drive inclusive and transformative education.
