Is Ateneo’s BS ITE the right path for you? Understanding the Technology Entrepreneurship track at JGSOM
30 Nov 2025
Introduction
Students exploring technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship often compare several Ateneo programs before choosing the path that fits their goals. Some consider Management Engineering or Management Honors, which are long-standing choices within the John Gokongwei School of Management (JGSOM). Others look at Management, Communications Technology Management, Restaurant Entrepreneurship, or Management of Applied Chemistry. Some also consider Management Information Systems (MIS) or Computer Science (CS) from the School of Science and Engineering when evaluating technology-related options.
This guide places BS Information Technology Entrepreneurship (ITE) at the center and explains how it compares with the programs students commonly consider. The aim is to clarify what makes ITE distinct within Ateneo and who the program is designed for.
What is BS ITE?
The BS in Information Technology Entrepreneurship (ITE) is an Honors Program for students who want to create technology-enabled products or lead tech-supported ventures. It integrates IT fundamentals, business training, product development, customer validation, and structured venture incubation.
Students progress from identifying a problem to designing, testing, and refining technology-based solutions. The program prepares them for roles in innovation, product development, applied technology, and early-stage venture creation. This includes exploring how emerging tools such as AI can support product and business design.
ITE is the only undergraduate program in Ateneo centered on technology entrepreneurship.
JGSOM Honors Programs and How ITE Fits
JGSOM offers three Honors Programs. Each has advanced coursework and higher academic expectations. ME and MGT-H have long-established track records and are often perceived as familiar or safer choices for students seeking strong preparation for analytics, leadership, and management roles. ITE complements them by offering a specialized path in technology entrepreneurship.
Management Engineering (ME)
ME develops strong analytical thinking and structured problem solving. It prepares students for roles in consulting, analytics, strategy, and planning.
Management Honors (MGT-H)
MGT-H prepares students for leadership and advanced management responsibilities. It suits students who want general entrepreneurship or corporate management roles.
Information Technology Entrepreneurship (ITE)
ITE focuses on designing and building technology-enabled products and ventures. It blends applied IT, business, and product development with market validation and venture incubation.
Before comparing programs
Graduates across JGSOM pursue a wide range of roles depending on their interests, skills, and experiences. The comparisons that follow describe each program’s primary emphasis to help applicants understand their core focus areas.
How ITE compares with other JGSOM programs
Management (MGT)
MGT provides broad preparation in management, operations, business leadership, and entrepreneurship.
ITE adds stronger focus on applied technology, prototyping, and product development, including work with emerging tools such as AI.
Communications Technology Management (CTM)
CTM is an interdisciplinary program that combines communication and information technology within a management curriculum. It prepares students for corporate marketing, brand management, customer experience, and digital communication roles, using communication and marketing technologies to reach and understand audiences.
ITE focuses on building technology products and ventures rather than primarily managing communication and marketing programs in corporate settings.
Restaurant Entrepreneurship (REnt)
REnt suits students who want to pursue food businesses, restaurant operations, or hospitality-related ventures. It combines business management and entrepreneurship with training for the culinary and food and beverage service industry.
ITE suits students who want to work on technology-enabled ventures and explore how modern tools, including AI, can support product and business development.
Management of Applied Chemistry (MAC)
MAC prepares students to become managers and entrepreneurs in chemistry-based industries, with roles in product formulation, manufacturing, quality, and industrial operations.
ITE prepares students for technology product development and technology-driven businesses, including solutions that make use of AI and other emerging tools.
How ITE compares with MIS and CS (not JGSOM programs)
MIS and CS are mentioned only because applicants often consider them when exploring technology-related paths. They belong to the School of Science and Engineering.
Management Information Systems (MIS)
MIS focuses on information systems, analytics, and organizational IT functions.
ITE focuses on applied technology for innovation, product development, and venture creation.
Computer Science (CS)
CS focuses on computing fundamentals, programming, and software engineering.
ITE focuses on technology applications for business, product design, and entrepreneurship rather than deep technical computing.
What roles can ITE graduates pursue?
ITE graduates often take roles that sit between technology and business, such as:
- technology product development
- innovation and transformation teams
- AI-supported solution design
- technology management
- venture building
- user and market research for product strategy
- early-stage product development
- startup co-founding
Some ITE graduates enter more technical work if they choose to deepen their programming or development skills.
How to know if ITE is the right choice
ITE may fit students who:
- want to design and build technology-enabled solutions
- are interested in innovation and product development
- want to understand how tools such as AI can enhance products and services
- enjoy customer validation and prototyping
- prefer applied technology over deep technical computing
- want a structured path toward venture creation
- like the combination of IT, business, and product design
Students who prefer deep computing may choose CS or MIS. Students who want broad management training may choose ME, MGT-H, or MGT.
Final note
BS ITE offers a structured pathway for students who want to work at the intersection of technology, business, and innovation. It prepares graduates for roles in technology product development, corporate innovation, AI-supported solutions, and new venture creation. The program guides students as they develop solutions grounded in customer needs and supported by applied technology.
