Memo #U2526-077
09 March 2026
Memo to :
The Higher Education Community
Subject :
Deanship of the Ateneo Law School
In light of the unexpected departure of Atty Jose Maria “Joey” G Hofileña, I have appointed a Search Committee for the next Dean of the Ateneo Law School (ALS). The Committee is tasked with assessing the leadership needs and priorities of the ALS and will nominate candidates to serve a three-year term (SY 2026–2027 to SY 2028–2029).
To help the Search Committee in its work, it would be good for the Higher Education community to go through a process of obtaining feedback on the following questions:
- What are the priority needs and expectations of the ALS at this time?
- What would be the qualities most important for the Dean to possess to enable the ALS to respond to these needs and expectations?
- Who might be possible candidates for the ALS Dean?
I would appreciate it if the feedback could be submitted to the Office of the President (president@ateneo.edu) on or before 20 March 2026.
The Search Committee will then go through the next steps of the process:
- Creating a list of possible candidates
- Interviewing candidates and key informants
- Recommending three possible names to the President
The target is for the Search Committee to finish its report by the second half of April 2026. This will enable me to make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees in time for its regular meeting on 2 May 2026.
I count on your active participation in this important search process. Thank you.
