Bending toward justice: A forum on the ICC, the Duterte Case, and victim participation

The Fr Joaquin G Bernas SJ Institute for Continuing Legal Education introduces the first half of its panel for the third installment of its On the Sounding Board series, entitled ๐๐๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐๐: ๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐จ๐ง ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐, ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ข๐๐ญ๐ข๐ฆ ๐๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง.
The forum will examine the processes of the International Criminal Court and the role of victims in international criminal proceedings, particularly in relation to the case involving former President Rodrigo Duterte.
๐ก๐ถ๐ฐ๐ผ๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ ๐ฆ. ๐๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฎ is the Executive Director of the Ateneo Human Rights Center and currently serves as Case Manager for the Legal Representatives of Victims in the Duterte case. She has worked closely with communities of victims and survivors of the Philippine drug war through paralegal education, evidence analysis, public advocacy, and strategic litigation before both domestic courts and international fora, including the Philippine Supreme Court and the International Criminal Court.
๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ป ๐. ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ป๐ด is a medical doctor with over four decades of experience in health, human rights, and justice work. She has been deeply engaged in community and sector organizing, transformative education, and advocacy at both national and international levels, with a focus on advancing civil, political, social, economic, and development rights. As a key leader in the Philippine Coalition for the International Criminal Court (PCICC), she played an important role in campaigning for the Philippinesโ ratification of the Rome Statute and the passage of Republic Act No. 9851. She continues to support victims and families affected by the Philippine drug war, advocating for accountability, restorative and transitional justice, and reforms toward a more public healthโ and human rightsโbased drug policy.
