02 Mar 2023
Last 21 February 2023, the Ateneo University Press, together with the Ateneo School of Government and Ateneo Martial Law Museum held a book launch for the “Martial Law in the Philippines: Lessons and Legacies, 1972 - 2022.”
This book is a collection of chapters and articles by journalists, academics, and activists on life during and after Martial Law, its effects on various sectors of the Philippine masses, and lessons we should have learned from this dark period in history. This was launched as part of the year-long commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law, and comes in time for the 37th anniversary of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
The event featured remarks from Dr. Philip Arnold Tuano of the Ateneo School of Government, editors Edilberto de Jesus and Ivyrose Baysic, as well as a panel discussion with chapter authors Dr. Mary Racelis, RADM Rommel Jude Ong, and Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio.
