Ateneo Law launches enhanced JD and LL.M Programs

17 Dec 2023

Partnerships for the Goals

After offering the Philippines’ first Juris Doctor (JD) Program in the late 1980s, the first Master of Laws (LL.M) Program with specializations in 2011, and the first JD Program with concentrations in 2015, the Ateneo de Manila University School of Law continues to trailblaze in providing legal education responsive to the profession’s need for lawyers skilled in different fields of law – beyond the usual, beyond the traditional.

The Ateneo JD Program now features an enhanced Dispute Resolution Track and a Law and Health Governance Stream under the International Law and Development Track. Moreover, the Ateneo LL.M Program now offers a Dispute Resolution Track and a Law and Health Governance Track, bringing its LL.M track offerings to six.

Through the new Dispute Resolution courses, the Ateneo School of Law hopes to develop modern legal practitioners who are able to adopt a more holistic, problem-solving approach to conflicts. By giving focus to the so-called “alternative,” which may open avenues for more meaningful conflict management, Ateneo aims to increase access to justice, especially for those in the margins.

The new Law and Health Governance courses seek to expand the discourse on the improvement of laws and policies in the health sector. The offering of these new courses is in line with the University’s Universal Health and Well-being thrust, which recognizes the Philippine public health system’s need for leadership that can nurse it back to health. And it is the kind of leadership that Ateneo de Manila can bring to the table – one that is marked by inclusivity, care, and compassion.

The Ateneo School of Law thanks and acknowledges the Capacity Building for Legal and Social Advancement (CALESA) Project and the European Union’s Erasmus Programme for supporting its continuing curriculum enhancement program.

Through these pioneering efforts and innovations in its curricula, the Ateneo School of Law remains true to its mission to train lawyers and law students who are not only skilled in the art and science of law but also imbued with a burning passion for justice and the fervent desire to serve others.
