As the second semester of Academic Year 2024-25 commenced, the Dean’s Hour at the Ateneo Law School served as a moment of reflection, inspiration, and guidance for the students. The event, held on 4 and 5 February, highlighted the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, community building, and preparing students for the challenges of the legal profession.

Dean Jose Maria G Hofileña opened the session by reflecting on the Ateneo Rockwell Campus’ recent 25th anniversary celebration, emphasizing the institution’s consistent high performance and its reputation as a rigorous academic program. “Our consistently high bar passing rates are not just a testament to our curriculum but also an affirmation of the community we’ve built,” Dean Hofileña remarked. “Behind every bar candidate is an entire community—students, alumni, faculty, and family—working together to ensure success.”

Addressing the bar exams, Dean Hofileña reassured students that their preparation for the bar began the moment they stepped into their first-year classes. “The four years you spend here are designed to equip you with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to succeed,” he said. “While the bar is a significant milestone, it’s not the end goal. It’s a stepping stone to a fulfilling legal career.”

A particularly interesting part of the Dean’s Hour was the discussion on the growing influence of artificial intelligence and its impact on the legal profession. Dean Hofileña acknowledged the rapid advancements in AI, citing the recent emergence of competitive AI tools that have captured global attention. “AI is here, and it’s transforming industries, including law,” he said. “But it should be a tool to enhance your capabilities, not replace them.”

In closing, Dean Hofileña reiterated the school’s commitment to academic integrity and excellence. He congratulated students who have excelled academically and encouraged others to strive for their best. “Our reputation as a top law school is built on the achievements of our students and alumni,” he said. “As you move forward, remember that you carry the legacy of this institution with you. Uphold the values we’ve instilled in you, and continue to make us proud.”
