To mark the 75th anniversary of the bilateral relations between the Philippines and the United States, several top academicians from the Ateneo School of Social Sciences shared their insights and analysis in a special edition of the Asia Pacific Bulletin, a publication under the East-West Center in Washington DC, that focuses on "policy-relevant Asia Pacific developments and US-Asia relations."

The academicians from Ateneo de Manila were convened by the East-West Center and the US Embassy in the Philippines to "assess the depth and breadth of US-Philippine relations."

"The East-West Center in Washington and the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines are proud to convene this eminent group of scholars from Ateneo de Manila University to assess the depth and breadth of US-Philippine relations," the publication said. All pieces in the Bulletin's special edition were written by these Ateneo scholars.

The following are the SOSS academicians who have contributed to the Bulletin:

  • Dr Maria Elissa J Lao
  • Dr Severo C Madrona Jr
  • Dr Leslie V Advincula-Lopez
  • Dr Jennifer S Oreta
  • Dr Marissa Maricosa A Paderon
  • Dr Ser Percival K Peña-Reyes
  • Dr Majah-Leah V Ravago
  • Dr Diana J Mendoza
  • Dr Enrique Nino P Leviste
  • Dr Ma. Glenda L Wui

Their pieces cover a wide range of topics examining Philippine-US relations throughout the years, from military and security, education, trade, health, and development.

The special edition of the Asia Pacific Bulletin was produced in tandem with Philippine Matters for America "to elucidate the wide range of commercial, diplomatic, security, and people-to-people ties between the United States and the Philippines." Philippine Matters for America is part of Asia Matters for America, another project at the East-West Center.

The East-West Center, established in 1960, "promotes better relations and understanding among the people and nations of the United States, Asia, and the Pacific through cooperative study, research, and dialogue."

It is one of the leading US-based centers for public diplomacy that focuses on the Indo-Pacific region.

The Asia Pacific Bulletin (APB) is a publication produced by the East-West Center in Washington. The Bulletin focuses on issues and developments in the Asia Pacific region that may impact US-Asia relations. The 10 part special  APB series: "Philippine Perspectives on the 75th Anniversary of US-Philippine Bilateral Relations” is a project that would not have been possible without the cooperation of the East West Center, the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines, and the School of Social Sciences Ateneo de Manila (with contributions from the Departments of Political Science, Economics, History, Sociology and Anthropology and the Development Studies Program).
