De Vera wins 3rd Place in PBS Oral Presentation

The Department of Biology congratulates Gavin Christian M. De Vera (BS Bio '23, MS Bio student) for winning 3rd PLACE - BEST ORAL PRESENTATION, UNDERGRADUATE CATEGORY in the 31st Annual Philippine Biodiversity Symposium held last week, 22-25 August 2023.

Gavin delivered a talk entitled "First look in 50 years: integrative taxonomy of Leptelmis Sharp, 1888 (Coleoptera: Elmidae: Elminae), with first barcodes and description of two new species from the Philippines". The study was conducted with Johann Isaac L. Sia (BS Bio '23) under the supervision of Dr. Emmanuel D. Delocado and Dr. rer. nat. Hendrik Freitag.

The competition was hosted by the Biodiversity Conservation Society of the Philippines and was held at the Sorsogon State University, Sorsogon City.
