Ateneo Family Business Development Center (AFBDC) of the John Gokongwei School of Management partners with University of San Francisco (USF) and Javeriana University of Colombia to conduct a joint class in family business management, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Since the start of the second semester 2023-24, classes of Dr. Pilar Tolentino (Ateneo), Dr. Monika Hudson (USF), and Prof. Fernando Pereira (Javeriana) have been engaged in both asynchronous and online synchronous classes, extending the traditional concept of classroom beyond boundaries of time zones and physical spaces. Modules, learning materials, class discussions, activities, and presentations were accomplished through thorough planning and thoughtful execution.

The project’s highlight was a one week in-person classes hosted by Ateneo de Manila from March 11 to 16. Students and faculty of the joint class visited and learned from real-life cases of Filipino family businesses. They also had the chance to visit a local community in Batasan Q.C. and were exposed to the livelihood sources of the community like weaving, beads making, and sari-sari stores.
