Ateneo de Manila participates in the Academy of Management Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark

Faculty from the John Gokongwei School of Management of Ateneo de Manila University participated in the 85th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management held last 25 to 29 July 2025 in Copenhagen, Denmark. This conference is the largest gathering of management academics, attracting more than 13,000 academics from all around the world.
The Ateneo team consisted of the Dean of the John Gokongwei School of Management, Dr Roberto Martin Galang; the Program Director of Ateneo BUILD, Mr Joseph Benjamin Ilagan; the Director of the Ateneo Family Business Development Center, Dr Pilar Tolentino; and Dr Emmanuel Zara Jr – the largest Filipino delegation among the conference participants.
The first presentation consisted of a paper development workshop on the impact on institutionalism of artificial intelligence hosted by Joben Ilagan, with panelists including Dr Xavier Ferràs-Hernández and Dr Esteve Almirall of the ESADE Business School; and Dr Petra Nylund of the University of Stuttgart; and Dr Robby Galang of Ateneo.
The following conference day, Dr EJ Zara presented his paper on how mindfulness practice improved leadership during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On the third conference day, Dr Pilar Tolentino conducted a poster presentation of their paper with Dr Wendy Farrell of X-Culture on optimizing team performance with Gen AI.
On the final day, Dr Robby Galang presented his paper with Mr Ken Emmanuel Merluza of Ateneo and Mr Ramon Martin Co of Northwestern University on how the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines negotiated their treatment as local or foreign firms during the US colonial period and beyond. This research paper was nominated as a conference best paper by the International Management Division interest group of the Academy of Management.
The Ateneo delegation also organized the annual gathering of Filipino management faculty and researchers from all over the world. This gathering was co-organized with the help of Dr Catherine Midel Deen from the University of New South Wales Canberra and Dr Simon Restubog, Interim Dean of the School of Labor and Employment Relations at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign.
