ASHS launches vegetable and herb garden in celebration of the Season of Creation
05 Oct 2025 | Orfelino Panotes
In celebration of the Season of Creation, the Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) community has taken a meaningful step toward ecological action by establishing a vegetable and herb garden on campus.
To foster a deeper appreciation for nature and promote greater community involvement in planting activities, the Office of the Campus Ministry—through Laudato Si’ Coordinator Sir John Ray Nagas—and Matanglawin, the ASHS community’s environmental stewardship organization, partnered with Sir Gian Dayao and the Campus Facilities Management Office to identify a suitable planting site. This collaboration fully supported the Ateneo Biological Organization – BOx-SHS, under the guidance of moderator Ms. Remy Lynn S. Magbiray, in realizing their long-envisioned goal of establishing a garden.
On 3 October 2025, the garden area was blessed by ASHS Chaplain Fr. Weng Bava, SJ. Rain fell during the blessing—an apt reminder of God's presence and grace in nature, nourishing the soil as the community began this new endeavor. The space is envisioned as a place where members of the community can not only grow vegetables and herbs, but also reflect, marvel at the beauty of creation, and offer gratitude to God for the gifts of nourishment and healing found in nature.
This project reflects ASHS’s commitment to the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
• SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
• SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-Being
• SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities
• SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production
Through this garden, ASHS continues to cultivate a culture of sustainability, spiritual reflection, and community collaboration.
