40 Days of Lent: Day 38

24 Feb 2023 | Office for Mission and Identity (OMI)

Who are 38 people you would like to pray for?

40 Days of Lent: Day 38

We can never go through life without other people. We love. We are loved. We get hurt. We cause hurt. We find joys. We face sorrows. All of these would be experiences that we undergo with, through and because of co-pilgrims. This world will not be this world, life will not be life, love will never be love if there is no one else that we encounter, give importance to and acknowledge in this journey.

In fact, even God would have a somewhat similar sense of others. While what is revealed to us that there is only one God in the three persona of the Father, Son and Spirit is a mystery we can never fully understand, we see the dynamic of the Lord not being alone. Jesus himself had his family, apostles, disciples, enemies, followers, friends and beloved. And we see in his passion how each and every one played a role in his narrative.

As we continue in this season of Lent, we can choose to be more mindful of persons on our path. Who are thirty-eight people you would like to pray for? Perhaps those very dear to you? People who may have caused you tears? Those with whom you disagree? Those you admire? Those who show you beauty? Those who challenge who you are? Recall and pray for each one. And as you do, may they be a reminder as well that Christ’s great heart embraced and suffered for all of us.
