40 Days of Lent: Day 36

40 Days of Lent: Day 36

As we begin a new week, is there a sense of hope in how the coming days will unfold? Can we feel excited because we do not know what will be? Can we latch on to possibilities, potentials and opportunities? Most importantly, because of what Jesus did for us which this season of Lent reminds us, can we believe that there is salvation, greater freedom and unparalleled love meant for us in what lies ahead?

Even as news of economic challenges continue, we can trust in the Father’s providence because he did, indeed, provide us the greatest gift through His son. Despite the uncertainties present due to the impermanence of this world, we can choose to be steadfast in our faith. And no matter how tiring our struggles may be, there can never be a lack of hope for our life is always filled with chances to turn things around. We should never skip over what is painful, what is negative and what is dire. But we can also turn our attention to the truth of God’s grace.

Being in this world is never without its hurts and hitches. But we are also never without reasons to be grateful. And so, what would be thirty-six items on your gratitude list? Can you allow yourself to acknowledge such causes for beauty and light? At the end of all that you will write down, may you find yourself grateful as well for we have been saved when Christ made his sacrifice. Our Lord never asked for a “Thank you” but nonetheless lived and fulfilled his “I love you” to us.
