40 Days of Lent: Day 33

40 Days of Lent: Day 33

We know for a fact that we evolve as persons. The things we liked before may not be so attractive when we become older. What we know about life and the world also grows. Maybe even how we relate, connect and interact with others, including God, can shift as well. That’s why every now and then, it may be valuable to take stock of who and what we are. After all, how we can be in future begins and is anchored on who we are today.

Some scholars say that Jesus was about thirty-three years old when he died. While that is still being further studied, we know that by the time he began his public ministry, he already had a very good grasp of who he was, what he needed to do as a mission, and in whom he put his trust. Surely, Christ could not have ministered as meaningfully as he did and he could not have endured what he went through if he were not clear on the who, the what and the why of his personhood and his life.

At the time of his ministry and death, even when others around him were questioning who he truly was, Christ was sure about himself, his God, and the reason for his actions. Today, what are you sure about yourself? Who are you? What are your traits, features, anchors, beliefs, realities? Why do you do the things you do? And if you will list down these truths about you at present, may you also take in that you are beloved even before you were born, now, and in all days to come.
