40 Days of Lent: Day 25

40 Days of Lent: Day 25

It has been said many times, in different ways, by several persons that everything in this life is gift. And it is, indeed, true. In fact, we would not be where we are at present if not for what we have been given: care from family, help from friends, support from colleagues, wise words from others. Even our very existence was not ours in the beginning but breathed unto us. At the same time, we are granted time which in turn provides opportunities, second chances, and new hope. This Lent can be a deeper realization of one important gift we have received: that of Christ’s self and salvation.

There can be much joy, peace and humility in realizing that we are at the mercy of what we are given. At the same time, there can be such deep empowerment and strength in embracing the truth that we receive abundantly. And because we have been given, we can also give. Because we have been cared for, we can also manifest care. Because we have been loved, we can also love.

This season, together with accepting what Jesus offered through his passion, we ought to allow ourself to be moved to be givers, too. And so today, can you take one more step towards giving meaningfully? Can you share twenty-five pesos to a person, a group or a cause that needs your encouragement, support and help? It is never about the amount but about the humility of being gifted and the empowerment to share because of this. As Jesus’ journey unfolds to us once more and we see what he gave so we could live more fully, we can believe that we have been held dear enough to be given. And so, we are blessed enough to give and contribute to making this world, our communities, and one another become better in our own great ways.
