Joyful Journeys of Faith

26 Jan 2024 | Virgie G. Esteves

Laughter echoing through the corridors, smiles lighting up faces, and hearts brimming with newfound understanding – these were the hallmarks of Ateneo de Manila Grade School's recent Grades 4 and 5 recollections. While each grade level embarked on a unique journey of faith exploration, the benefits the boys reaped resonated deeply, fostering personal growth and strengthening their connection with God and community.

Our Grade 4 boys delved into the inspiring life of St. Ignatius and the profound message of the Suscipe prayer in their recollection held on January 6, 2024.

Through engaging activities and storytelling, they discovered St. Ignatius' transformation from soldier to saint, and learned valuable lessons about courage, resilience, and service. The Suscipe, with its emphasis on seeking God's will, resonated deeply with the boys, planting seeds of self-reflection and a desire to make good choices. With their boyish enthusiasm and thoughtful participation apparent even to observers, it was evident that the recollection ignited a spark of faith and purpose within the young Ateneans.

Meanwhile, our Grade 5 students embarked on their meaningful exploration of the sacraments on January 13, 2024. Interactive workshops and thought-provoking discussions brought the significance of each sacrament to life. Students pondered the role of Baptism in welcoming them into the Christian community, and the spiritual nourishment they receive through the Eucharist. Witnessing their active participation and hearing their insightful questions, it was clear that the recollection deepened their understanding of the sacraments and underscored their importance in the boys’ lives.

Beyond the specific themes, both recollections fostered shared experiences that nurtured the students' faith and sense of community. The joyful songs, heartfelt prayers, and moments of quiet reflection created a unique space for spiritual growth and connection. Students bonded with their peers, learned from each other's perspectives and developed a stronger sense of belonging as part of a faith-filled community.

As the recollections drew to a close, the impact of the activity was evident in the students' shining eyes and thoughtful reflections. We formators hope that the activity imparted not just newfound knowledge, but a strengthened relationship with God, a deeper understanding of their faith, and a renewed sense of purpose and joy in their spiritual journey. The seeds of faith planted during these joyful journeys will undoubtedly blossom and guide these young Ateneans as they continue to grow and explore their relationship with God and the world around them.
