ASOG Dean Ronald Mendoza and Assoc Prof Imelda Deinla speak about Election-Related Violence in GMA's 24 Oras

As election day draws nearer, Dean Ronald Mendoza, PhD and Associate Professor Imelda Deinla, PhD of the Ateneo School of Government weighed in on why Election-Related Violence (ERV) has become a common occurrence in the Philippines as part of the Election Special Reports hosted by GMA's 24 Oras last April 20, 2022.
During the feature, Dr. Deinla emphasized how election-related violence serves to give candidates an electoral advantage, either through intimidation or outright elimination of opponents running for office.
Dean Mendoza further explains that ERV is due to the unwillingness of long-standing politicians to lose a position of power, particularly in badly-governed areas where a running opponent offers a new brand of governance that would help clear corruption.
According to the segment, national police recorded an all-time high number of cases in 2016, when it reached 227 incidents of election-related violence. You may watch the segment through this link:
