Two-Part Series: ASOG BARMM Mission to Tawi-Tawi [Part 1]

The Ateneo Bangsamoro Initiative Team together with the former ASOG Dean Ronald U. Mendoza, and Ateneo Policy Center Head Ivy Baysic, went on a mission to Tawi-Tawi last July 27 to July 30, 2022. The team has explored potential research, executive education, and academic programs for Tawi-Tawi.

During the 4-day fieldwork, the team was able to meet with the Provincial Government of Tawi-Tawi represented by: Mr. Mobin N. Gampal, the Provincial Administration Officer, Mr. Serhan C. Daris, the Provincial Information Communication Technology Officer, Mr. Melhan J. Masdal and Mr. Yusop A. Tidal, Board Members of the 2nd District of Tawi-Tawi, and Atty. Mandutong S. Jumianjang, the Secretary of Sangguniang Panlungsod;  and a courtesy meeting with Mayor Jimuel Que of the Municipality of Bongao. They also went to the island municipality of Panglima Sugala where they met with Vice-Mayor Dayang Iman Sahali.

ASOG through the Ateneo Policy Center firmly believes in collaborative research engagements. Hence, the mission team also explored partnerships with the Mindanao State University Tawi-Tawi College of Technology and Oceanography and the Notre Dame of Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, particularly in its ongoing research on disinformation and misinformation.

This recent fieldwork in Tawi-Tawi was part of the ASOG’s Mission Mindanao and BARMM Participate Project, and the continuing initiative of the school in forming leaders and leading reforms.
