- Background
The Ateneo School of Government (ASOG) is the public sector arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. The School’s long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants. It aims to contribute in building prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes.
As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision- making and governance. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private, and community organizations, ASOG continues to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in areas such as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.
II. Tasks and Functions
A research project titled “Database on Election-Related Violence in the Philippines” is currently being implemented. This project intends to develop a multidisciplinary database of the election-related violence and killings for the Philippines. In particular, the Research Assistant of the project is expected to:
- Provide research and technical inputs to the Dean or the Policy Center Head in the development of research outputs such as working papers, policy briefs, presentations, and journal articles;
- Provide technical and operational assistance to the Ateneo Policy Center Head and Project Team in developing communications content and strategies, such as but not limited to websites, social media posts, press releases, policy briefs, etc.
- Assist the Ateneo Policy Center Head, and the project team in expanding the Center’s network and in engaging media and other stakeholders for the dissemination of project outputs;
- Manage and support the continuous development and maintenance of databases (e.g. database of partners, conferences, experts) for the expansion of networks;
- Attend all meetings, events, and functions as deemed necessary by the Project Management Team and the Ateneo Policy Center; and,
- Prepare periodic reports, and other documentation requirements for internal and external reporting
III. Description of Education, Competence, and Required Experience
Applicants for the Ateneo Policy Center - Research Assistant position must have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in any social science, economics, public policy or international development with above average academic performance; Master’s degree or units are an advantage.
- At least 2 years professional experience in research and project management for;
- Thematic familiarity with governance and institutions, youth and development, public opinion, and/or political economy;
- Knowledge and experience with survey methods is an advantage.
- Basic knowledge and experience with statistical analysis platforms such as STATA or R is an advantage
- Experience with information design, communication and presentation is an advantage;
- Can efficiently handle and deliver outputs with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral communications skills to effectively present information, respond to questions and negotiate, and strong writing skills to review and edit all types of unit documents.
- Has excellent organizational skills and is able to contribute to team research processes.
